Italy: Hellas Verona v Chievo Verona

This weekend the Verona Derby,  or the 'Derby Della Scala' as it is known, will take place in the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi, as Hellas Verona host Chievo Verona in Serie A. This will be just the 11th Derby between the sides, and it's very even, 4 wins apiece and 2 draws.

Hellas Verona, newly promoted this season are flying, 6th in the table, and started off the season with a 2-1 win against Serie A giants Milan. Their talisman is 36 year-old striker Luca Toni who has already scored 5 goals in 10 games, ably assisted by Argentinian wonder-kid Juan Iturbe. A whole host of clubs are keeping tabs on Iturbe, who is regarded as the new Messi. Brazilian midfielder, 21 year-old Jorginho is also attracting a lot of attention after scoring 5 goals early on. I think Verona's biggest problem will be trying to hold onto their two big youngsters.

Chievo meanwhile have struggled badly this season, even though they have been in all the games they have played, losing games only by the odd goal. Coach Giuseppe Sannino was sacked just before the International break and replaced by former coach Eugenio Corini, himself sacked by the club at the end of last season. He has a difficult task ahead as he tries to drag Chievo off the foot of the table. He has good players at his disposal like Sestu, Estigarribia, Thereau and Alberto Paloschi, even though Sergio Pellissier will be suspended due to being sent off against Milan. A new coach always brings with it new determination and enthusiasm, so it will be interesting to see.
All in all it promises to be a great occasion, hopefully it lives up to it.
