Arsenal Set To Make A Bid For Chelsea Starlet?

Since the return of Jose Mourinho to the Chelsea hot seat, two time Chelsea player of the year, Juan Mata, has remained an outcast of Mourinho's plans. The former Real Madrid manager has refused to start Mata in crucial games for the blues this season and reports have been breaking all season that the Spaniard is desperate to secure his spot in Spain's World Cup squad heading to Brazil in June.

For those with a long memory, you will fondly remember that Arsene Wenger has been a long term admirer of Juan Mata and the former Valencia man nearly signed for the Gunners prior to his arrival at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2011. Reports suggest that the original deal to Arsenal was all but done until the intervention of new Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas, who convinced the Spaniard that his future lay in West London.

News this evening broke in the Irish media that Arsene Wenger is set to re-kindle his interest in the Chelsea star and make a bid in excess of £22.5m for the London Business School student. Mata is keen to remain in London and would be willing to fight for his place amongst the Chelsea squad however his dreams of representing Spain are in doubt if he continued to play as regular as he is now. Reports this morning also suggest he's set for a move to Bavaria to join Pep Guardiola's revolution at Bayern Munich.
